What are Dental Veneers?October 23, 2018
A veneer is an ultra-thin piece of ceramic (porcelain) material used to create perfect looking teeth. Dental Veneers are placed to mask the discolorations, shape or poor positioning of teeth and to improve the appearance of a smile. This procedure often requires little or no anesthesia at all. That means you can have your ideal smile without ever seeing a needle.
Porcelain veneers are excellent in a number of minor aesthetic issues. They are ideal for filling gaps or correct small misalignments. Generally, veneers are used as a cosmetic solution to improve the brightness of teeth, discoloration and improve the smile. They will last for many years depending on how well you take care of them. All type of veneers are designed to be very strong so there should not be any restrictions in terms of what you can eat or drink once they are fitted.
There are two main types of veneers:
- Composite Veneers
- Porcelain Veneers
Composite Veneers: Composite veneers are also known as bonded veneers, which are cheaper and less destructive way to improve the appearance of a smile. A single appointment is all that’s needed for this procedure, which will bring back your smile and hide any imperfections.
Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are also known as traditional veneers, which serve the same purpose as composite veneers. These veneers are handcrafted at a very high-end lab and then cemented onto the tooth surface. The procedure requires two appointments: one to prepare the tooth and take the impression that will serve to make the veneer in the lab, and a second to cement the veneer onto the tooth.

Dr Heaton is as kind as he is competent. He treats me like a person, not a paycheck and I feel like I can trust him to only recommend what I need. I also referred an employee of mine who needed serious dental care and did not have a lot of money. Dr Heaton was flexible and kind and so helpful. Highly Recommend.Jason J.
Most people dread going to the dentist but I'm always excited to go especially when it means seeing all of the wonderful people who work there. My family has been going here for more than 20 years and I've never had a bad experience. You can count on walking out the door with a huge (minty fresh) smile on your face. Highly recommended!Gina D.
